Mass Effect 3: Earth

BioWare continues to pump out stellar free DLC for Mass Effect 3.  The latest edition is the Earth multiplayer pack which adds six new classes, a new platinum difficulty, three new maps, three new weapons, and a slew of mods and gear.  The pack drops today, July 17, 2012.

Destroyer Soldier, Paladin Sentinel, Demolisher Engineer, Slayer Vanguard, Shadow Infiltrator, and Fury Adept

Rio, Vancouver, and London

Piranha assault shotgun, Acolyte pistol, and Typhoon assault rifle

Deadpool...The Game

It looks like everyone's favorite Merc with a Mouth is getting his very own video game.  Developed by High Moon Studios (Darkwatch, Transformers: War for Cybertron, etc.) and published by Activision, the game is slated for release sometime in 2013.  Hopefully that Mayan apocalypse is off by a few years.  The debut trailer shows appropriately over-the-top action that falls in line perfectly with Deadpool's character.  There's not much shown in the trailer beyond a few nods to previous Marvel titles, terrible jokes, and Deadpool slaughtering hapless individuals.  However, at 0:55, we catch a glimpse of what could be the psychic assassin, Psylocke.  How does she fit in?  I couldn't even begin to guess.

A Deadpool game was one of the last things I was expecting to be unveiled at SDCC, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.  Hopefully it turns out better than some of Marvel's recent titles.

App of the Week: Final Fantasy

Name: Final Fantasy
Cost: $6.99
Description: "Initially released in Japan in 1987, the original FINAL FANTASY amazed audiences with its rich story and stunning graphics.

Players guide the Warriors of Light as they set out on a quest to restore the crystals to their former luster.  Its side view battles, choice and promotion of character classes, and sprawling world explored with fantastic vehicles quickly became standards of the series.  This game set the stage for all FINAL FANTASY games to come.

This edition also contains the bonus dungeons added to later editions of the game--the Soul of Chaos and the Labyrinth of Time."

While there have been many great titles that have come to Windows Phone, Final Fantasy may be the greatest yet.  This remastered classic of the 1987 original sets the stage for every great sequel that followed.  As a kid, I would not have believed that I would live in a day and age where I can walk around with multiple full fledged games in my pocket.

Beyond the visual overhaul, the controls have been tailored to the touchscreen and it couldn't be more intuitive to play.  Quick-saves and the ability to resume makes Final Fantasy easy to play in bite-sized sessions.  Of course, it's hard to stop playing once you get going.

This is the classic tale of adventure as four friends must stop an evil knight, rescue a princess, and restore a kingdom to its former glory.  The nostalgic graphics, music, and gameplay are enough to transport any gamer nearly two decades in the past when gaming was still in its infancy.

If you're even a casual fan of RPGs or good games in general, then the demo is an absolute must.  Though it's a steep price for a phone game at $6.99, one has to remember that this isn't just a phone game.  It's a wonderfully crafted remake of a NES classic.  For Windows Phone owners or Final Fantasy die-hards, this is a must have title.
