Right out the gate, I feel I owe you an apology for last week. As stated, I wasn’t really feeling it. But, I should have put a little more effort forth. So, for that, I’m sorry. This week was just as busy, but I managed to keep my head above the water.
My “stupid” project was more an excuse for me to tinker with Carrd and its site-building tools. Overall, I’m fairly impressed with its flexibility and relative ease of use. From a fairly basic template, I was able to put together what I would consider a dense site due to the number of active links between pages. The layouts are clean and the transitions are smooth. Plus, it’s dirt cheap compared to other services like Squarespace. Despite sounding like an ad, Carrd did not pay me my pauper’s wage for that paragraph.
One thing I’m fairly passionate about that might not always come across is music. I try to keep an open mind and will often give things a shot. But a few things confuse the shit out of me. One of which is the DJ. I simply don’t understand what they do and why people love them. That was until someone turned me on to Dice_K_0. They’re weird, have an interesting presence, and play a lot of German and Japanese tracks. I have no real understanding of why it resonates with me the way it does. But I figured I’d share.
What I’m Playing
Monster Hunter Rise came out less than two weeks ago and I somehow have 50 hours in at this time of writing. So, yeah, I’ve been playing a lot of that. I was pleased to find a version of my favorite armor set had made its way to Rise, so I’ve been slaying in style. Plus, as you can see below, I’ve been writing a ton of guides related to Rise. So lots and lots of time in and around Kugane.
All Saints Wake has returned to Final Fantasy XIV. For those not in the know, it’s a stand-in for Halloween. Now, being the sensible, intelligent, and attractive reader that you are, surely realize that a Halloween event at the tail end of January makes little to no sense. And you would be totally right. So while I love Halloween and I love Final Fantasy XIV, it’s a little hard to get into the spirit of things when I’m now shoveling my driveway on a daily basis.
What I’m Watching
Last week was a bit of a lie. We have been watching Mandalorian since it debuted. Now, going back to when the original trilogy was released in theaters back in the 90’s and I first found Star Wars, Boba Fett has been my favorite character. This only increased in the Expanded Universe when he was brought back to life and his story significantly expanded on in The New Jedi Order series. But, with this new series…I don’t know that I like this Boba. I liked the cold and ruthless mercenary. This Boba is not that.
Otherwise, we’re also watching Peacemaker on HBO Max and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. James Gunn is quickly moving up the ranks as one of my favored writers and directors. The Suicide Squad was a surprise hit for me considering how bad the first movie was.
Finally, for family movie night, we watched Eternals. It was long, felt long, and was only okay in the end. I like the concept, but the characters felt shallow and there was a lot they were trying to establish and tell.
