You’ve got me riding high today. Last week ended on a high note and I went to a Ghost show last night.
Speaking of going to shows, let’s talk about etiquette. To set the stage, Ghost is currently touring with Twin Temple and Volbeat. Twin Temple and Ghost have heavy satanic themes whereas Volbeat is pretty much rockabilly. I gave Volbeat’s music a listen, but just couldn’t get into it. So the audience is pretty well divided between Volbeat and Ghost fans. Not many people were going for Twin Temple, despite a solid, yet criminally short, set.
What I learned is that when two acts co-headline and their fan bases don’t really overlap, there is a problem with manners. Many of the people around us were clearly there for Volbeat. Now, I’m not insinuating that all of their fans are assholes, but last night didn’t paint the best picture for them.
During Twin Temple’s set, the people in front of us were actively mocking the group, while two guys behind us WOULD NOT shut up about Three Days Grace and Godsmack. Meanwhile, to my right, were a couple of women that were constantly snapping selfies, posting to Facebook, and compulsively refreshing their feeds. Throw in these ladies and their husbands constantly getting up for beer and us needing to allow them out…it was beyond aggravating.
We ended up leaving the arena after Twin Temple’s set and sat outside for Volbeat’s set. While Ghost was setting up and their backing music was playing, the mockery continued along with the bright cellphones to my right, and the inane chatter behind. I ultimately had to say something to the guys behind us as they clearly had no intention of being quiet for Ghost’s set.
Fortunately, despite the rough start to the night, Ghost was amazing. They were loud enough that I couldn’t hear anyone around us, and the Facebook-addicted pair left before the set started. As much as I love Ghost, I’m now wary about going to any of their gigs where they share the headline.
What I’m Playing
With The Witch Queen releasing tomorrow, I dove back into Destiny 2. It feels good to play again, but I’m definitely itching for the new content. As good as the core gameplay loop is, there’s only so much I can play before getting bored. That being said, it felt good to finish off the season pass and knock out a few other quests that have been sitting in my log.
I still don’t know what to make of Lost Ark. I think the problem is that I really want it to be Diablo and it simply isn’t that. The story isn’t interesting and clearing each zone by doing the exact same thing over and over for dozens of hours is now boring. I really want to like it, but it simply isn’t happening.
I broke the everloving fuck out of Final Fantasy VIII with a save editor and purchased the remastered version which then imported the save. After wrapping up Disc 1, I think I should be able to get through this playthrough. I’ve taken the grind out of the equation and can just experience the story.
What I’m Watching
Peacemaker was a little disappointing in the season finale. It was set up to be an explosive climax, and while there was plenty of action, it all felt muted. Overall it was the strongest series of all those we’ve watched recently, and I’m definitely looking forward to the next season. It certainly was interesting how they took a complete bastard of a character and made him likable.
Jackass Forever made me feel like a teen again and the way the whole theater laughed at their antics reminded me why cinemas should always be a thing. It was cathartic to laugh so much. While the main cast may be getting older, and a new group was introduced, it didn’t feel out of place. If you were a fan of the show or previous movies, do yourself a favor and go see this one.
I’m now actively falling asleep while watching We’re All Dead. Stick a fork in this one. It’s done.
Attack on Titan finally kicked off the endgame and while I’m sad we won’t get the same kind of titan action as the early seasons, this is engaging. I’m still not sure who is on each side or what the sides even are at this point, but it’s been a wild ride.
