Nighttime is weird. I used to love it. The whole world was asleep and I was left to my own devices. I was free to do whatever I liked. But now? Now I sit and stare at my monitor for an hour, get real sad, and ultimately do nothing. I have plenty of games available to play and tons of content to watch, but as soon as the moon comes up, I have no drive to do anything. It sucks and I hate it.
I got my ultrawide monitor in and it works beautifully with the 3080. This upgrade has completely changed how I experience gaming. This weekend I went on a tear and reinstalled a bunch of content I thought would run well. This whole upgrade process was well worth the investment and I’m kicking myself for thinking 1080 was good enough.
What I’m Playing
Resident Evil 2 - Capcom is just ludicrous with how much memory its games take. I wanted to mod this game to hell and back, but was disappointed with the options available. Most of them are just nude mods. As such, I didn’t get too far with this one. Maybe I’ll try again later and just embrace that the community wants everyone and thing to be naked in Resident Evil.
Cyberpunk 2077 - I finally beat Cyberpunk and while the endings were Mass Effect 3 levels of disappointment, the overall experience was an absolute delight. I’m so glad I decided to get back into this one. Since there was a few years between when I started the game and when I finished it, I’m opting to play it again right away for a more cohesive experience. The difficulty has been cranked all the way up and I’m not breaking the leveling experience.
Call of Duty: Vanguard - I remembered how stunning the opening of this game was and had been meaning to get back to it before Modern Warfare 2 releases. So, I bumped the settings to max and dove in. While I wasn’t a fan of the narrative structure with flashbacks being the main device, it was so pretty that I didn’t mind. Going through a wide variety of stunning environments was worth the price tag alone.
Destiny 2 - My Titan has never looked more real and this game has never been more beautiful. I’ve hit power cap for the first time in years and now we’re on cruise control until Festival of the Lost rolls around next week.
Street Fighter V - Fuck this game and its inability to run at a stable framerate. I’m done trying to fix it and am now wary of getting Street Fighter 6. Good job, Capcom.
What I’m Watching
Hellraiser - The reboot hit Hulu, so the wife and I continued our horror movie festival. It combined elements of the first two movies and was visually interesting, but that’s about it. The acting, outside the Cenobites, was fine, but nothing spectacular. The Cenobite design and mystery of the Leviathan were spot on. It’s kind of like Lovecraft’s works where the idea of them is actually better than the product itself.
Los Espookys - I love the comedy of this show, but it’s straying far into nonsensical territory. It’s not as firmly grounded in reality and I think that’s hurting it. This season doesn’t feel too tight there are too many storylines going on which results in it not feeling as tight.
Bee and Puppycat - Bringing the energy of Adventure Time with a more adult tone, Bee and Puppycat is utterly ridiculous and hilarious. It’s on Netflix and is a must-watch.
